The Stoic Man: Embracing Reason and Resilience

An ancient Greek philosophy known as stoicism gained popularity among the Romans and attributed to a huge amount of their success. It teaches that putting our attention on what we can control and letting go of what we can't is the best way to live. Included in this are our emotions, which, if we let them, may frequently mislead us.

Being able to manage our emotions and behaviors is one way that Stoicism can be especially applicable to masculinity. It can be simple to slip into the trap of suppressing our emotions or responding in harmful ways when presented with obstacles in a culture that frequently demands males to be tough and emotionless. Stoicism offers an alternative strategy: rather than attempting to control or repress our emotions, or 'just do whatever you feel like'. It urges us to be logical and conscious of them.

When faced with a challenging circumstance, a Stoic could, for instance, pause and consider what the most logical course of action would be. Instead of getting mired in their own feelings, they could try to view things from several angles. In place of allowing their emotions to impair their judgment, this can help individuals behave more skillfully and make better decisions.

Stoicism can be a helpful philosophical approach for fostering resilience in men, in addition to assisting them in becoming more in control of their emotions. The Stoics held that rather than letting our pleasure depend on outside events, we should concentrate on what we can control and accept what we cannot. This can be a potent technique to build resilience and the capacity to overcome setbacks.

Stoicism ultimately provides a distinctive viewpoint on masculinity that emphasizes restraint, reason, and fortitude. It's  not appropriate for everyone, but it can be a helpful tool for men like you who want to have more meaningful and fulfilled lives.
